Somerset County League Division 2W
Westland United 0, Middlezoy Rovers 2
MIDDLEZOY continued their hunt for promotion with a visit to an improving Westland United side on Saturday.
After dominating the opening exchanges, Middlezoy deservedly found a breakthrough on 27 when Dan Luce's pinpoint delivery was powered home from the head of captain Darren Cann. Despite creating a number of decent chances, the best of which was wasted by Craig Wright, Middlezoy went in to the break with a slender advantage.
The home side enjoyed the lion's share of possession after the break, but were unable to force keeper Baker into a save. The game was effectively over on 79 minutes when Cann again got his head to a deep cross and Andy Smith was on hand to pressure the keeper into a mistake.
Middlezoy are still five points behind Congesbury with a game in hand.
The next week could decide the fate of Middlezoy's season, with a home game against Portishead tomorrow (Tuesday) and a trip to Burnham United on bank holiday Monday.
