BRIDGWATER Town face an incredible eight matches in a fortnight to complete their 2012/13 season before the league’s deadline.

The league refused to extend the Robins’ season which means they must play some games on successive days.

Poor weather, waterlogged pitches and then frozen pitches have caused the fixture backlog with more than 30 first-team outings falling foul to the conditions over the course of the season.

Last week, the team lost 3-0 to Taunton Town and then 4-1 to Poole Town before beating Winchester City 3-1 at the weekend thanks to goals from Graham Merceica, Ross MacNab and Harry Nodwell.

Joint boss Kevin Milsom said, despite the win, the match was farcical.

He said: “The pitch was unplayable for the last 20 minutes, people couldn’t stand up and you couldn’t pass the ball three yards.

“It has been a horrendous season and you can only put out what you have.

“It’s very unfair to ask players to play five times in a week and do all the travelling when they have work commitments but it’s the situation we are in at the moment.”

Milsom said he will make a decision on his future at the club at the end of the season.

l TOWN Reserves beat Ilminster Town 2-0 and are expected to travel to Odd Down Reserves on Saturday if the game can be switched from Fairfax Park.
