BRIDGWATER Schools took two squads to the 26th annual English Schools’ FA Festival on the Isle of Wight last week.

They divided their squads into Whites and Reds with both sides performing well as the team managers used a ‘mix and match’ policy between the teams.

Bridgwater Reds started their programme with a 3-1 victory over Vale of White Horse from Oxfordshire with goals from Jamie Burton and two for Rhys Hayward.

Bridgwater Whites were thankful to second half goals from Tyler Reed and captain Harry Hamblin to snatch a point having trailed 2-0 at the break.

The Whites also came back from 2-0 down against Isle of Wight Schools when Billy Vickery netted twice.

The Reds suffered a 3-2 defeat to Hampshire side Gosport and Fareham despite late efforts from Tyler Reed and Harry Horton.

The Reds battled to a 0-0 draw with the talented Hyndburn and Ribble Valley side and on the last morning of the festival, they were involved in a very close game with East Riding who won 2-1 despite Tyler Reed’s goal.

Bridgwater Whites drew 1-1 with Barnsley with Keelen Gunningham netting but they lost 5-1 to Hartlepool with Jack Fridge getting the consolation.
