BRIDGWATER  Town’s first team squad were given another run out at Fairfax Park last night (August 7) against Hellenic League Division One West champions Tytherington Rocks who proved more than capable opposition and showed why they had won their title so comfortably last season.

The rain that fell during the build up to the game made the playing surface slippery and it took a while for both teams to find their form and the sides were only separated by a Jon Vance penalty for Town at the half-time interval.

The second period began with Bridgy adding two further goals before the hour mark through Steve Fitzpatrick and a second from Vance. Town’s management team then decided to ring the changes and made several substitutions that disrupted the flow a little allowing the Bristol-based visitors back in the match with two quick goals which made it 3-2 as the game entered the final fifteen minutes.

Town’s nerves were settled though with five minutes remaining as Craig Veal hit the target to make the final score 4-2.

After the game first-team stalwart Mat Pitcher put pen to paper and signed Southern League registration forms as did Vance (from Taunton Town) and Fitzpatrick (from Bristol Manor Farm), leaving Town’s management team with only one or two more players to agree terms with.

Town complete their preseason schedule against Welsh Premier League outfit AFAN LIDO at Fairfax Park on Saturday (11 Aug - 3pm) before the season proper begins the following weekend when Hungerford Town visit Fairfax Park (also 3pm kick off).
