Bridgwater Town 1, Longwell Green Sports 0

A FIRST-HALF strike from Jake Llewellyn was enough to seal a sixth straight win in all competitions for Bridgwater Town as basement outfit Longwell Green Sports were beaten at Fairfax Park.

The Robins handed a debut to centre-half Tom Stone, signed this week on dual registration from Taunton Town, and the hosts controlled the early stages after surviving an early let-off.

Town took the lead on 27 minutes when Llewellyn fired home after a corner wasn't properly cleared, and Stone came close to doubling the lead as both a header and a follow-up shot were blocked by a combination of the goalkeeper and his defence.

Llewellyn was also involved in the final meaningful action of the first half as he went down in the box only for the referee to ignore the home side's appeals for a penalty.

The struggling visitors, who have seen their form improve of late, piled on the pressure after the break in search of an equaliser but couldn't create many serious opportunities to threaten the hosts.

Ryan Burrows saw a shot saved late on for Town, who were able to hold on for the three points to continue their good run.

Next up for the Robins is a tricky trip to Bridport on Wednesday evening.
