Buildbase FA Vase - second round
Farnham Town 2, Bridgwater Town 3

BRIDGWATER Town travelled to distant Surrey on Saturday to take on Farnham Town, and came away with a place in the third round for only the third time in the club's history.

Following their third trip of 200+ miles in this competition, to Farnham's Memorial Ground, the Robins faced a side who were unbeaten in their last nine games.

Both sides went for the jugular from the kick-off, with Jake Viney making a fine save inside the first minute and Dave Pearse having a goal ruled out for offside at the other end.

Pearse was then denied by the keeper, who also saved from Ryan Burrows, before the frantic pace of the first 10 minutes lessened as both defences settled down.

The opener came from a Bridgwater free-kick, as the hosts counter-attacked at speed, and although Tyne Govier blocked one chance, the rebound fell for Nick Medcraft to smash home on 31 minutes.

The Robins kept plugging away, with Harry Horton influential in midfield on his first start since rejoining the club, and Burrows seeing another effort saved.

They gained their reward on the stroke of half time, as the impressive Pearse found space on the right before being pulled back in the box, allowing Mike Duffy to score emphatically from the penalty spot.

For all the sides' continued endeavour, there were fewer clear chances after the break, as the defensive players dealt with all that was thrown at them.

Extra time was looming, until three goals in 11 minutes decided the tie.

In the 79th minute, Burrows put the Robins ahead, after a scuffed goal-kick fell perfectly for him 30 yards out.

The home side hit back just four minutes later, though, as a short corner routine led to Elliot Cardona hooking a shot past Viney for 2-2.

But there was time for one more goal, as substitute Shaun Copp stretched the home defence, and Burrows was played in again to slot home a 90th-minute winner.

The Robins saw out added time to secure the victory and send their travelling supporters (around 30 hardy souls) home very happy indeed.
