BRIDGWATER Town's reward for their 5-4 win at St Austell on Saturday is a trip to Wessex League side Bashley in the FA Vase first round proper.

Goals from Callum Ham (2), Syd Camper (2) and Matt Connick gave the Robins a thrilling win in Cornwall, and earned the club £750 in prize money.

They are on the road again for the first round proper of the competition, travelling to Hampshire team Bashley - who play in the Wessex League Premier Division - on Saturday, October 21.

The winning side will earn £825, with the losing side receiving £270.

Reflecting on the St Austell game, Robins co-manager Karl Baggaley said: It was a great game for the neutral, but not for us managers!

"We were down to the bare bones, but it was a good display from the whole squad.

"To go down there and get a win against a side with good FA Vase pedigree was a great effort."

Looking ahead to Bashley, he added: "We love an away game in the cup - part of the magic of these competitions is travelling to teams you wouldn’t normally play against.

“They have had a mixed start in the league and I fully expect us to be in the hat for the next round.

“If we believe in ourselves a bit more, we could go far."

Before their next Vase tie, the Robins have two testing league fixtures coming up, as they go to undefeated Bradford Town on Saturday and league leaders Buckland Athletic seven days later.

Regarding that challenge, Baggaley said: “I watched [Bradford Town] in their second game of the season, and they are a strong team with experienced attackers.

“We know, however, that if we turn up we are a match for anyone in this league.

“It sounds strange after we scored five on Saturday, but we still need to be a bit more ruthless in front of goal, and we will be working hard on that in training this week.”
