Bridgwater Town 0, Hengrove Athletic 0

AN understrength Bridgwater Town side had to settle for a point at home to Hengrove Athletic, as the match at Fairfax Park ended in stalemate.

Young debutant Sam Hallett was injured inside 10 minutes, and with his replacement, the half-fit Steve Holland, only lasting 25 minutes before Shaun Lambert came on, the hosts were left with no more substitutes.

A largely uninspiring game did have its chances, with the Robins missing the opportunity to claim the three points.

For Hengrove, a header wide by Lewis Dunn and two shots from Gary Shorney, both blocked by home defenders, were the sum total of their chances.

The hosts, having created little, saw Matt Connick shoot against the outside of the post and then head just wide from Dave Thorne's cross before half time.

The second half brought flickers of activity but few real opportunities, until the final 10 minutes.

Syd Camper did well to reach the byline and loft a cross in for Dave Pearse to head at goal, only for Hengrove keeper Carl Bush to make an outstanding save.

The point leaves Bridgwater 11th in the Premier Division table, and their next outing is away to St Austell in the FA Vase second qualifying round on Saturday.

Bridgwater Town: Viney, C. White, Thorne, Pearse, J. White, Hallett (Holland 9, Lambert 35), Ham, Jenkins, Burrows, Camper, Connick.
