FA Cup - first qualifying round
Gosport Borough 1, Bridgwater Town 0
BRIDGWATER Town's FA Cup adventure came to an end on the south coast courtesy of a 1-0 defeat at Gosport Borough.
Chinedu Vine's first half goal was enough to seal the hosts' progress, while the Robins saw Jake Llewellyn sent off for a two-footed challenge in the second half.
On a sunny afternoon, Bridgwater started slowly against their Southern League Premier opponents and, having held out until the 17th minute, went behind when Vine converted Jack Breed's cutback from the right hand side.
The Robins received a blow when skipper Kurt Robinson was withdrawn due to injury midway through the first half, but the visitors came back into the game as the half wore on as Jack Jenkins and Ryan Burrows tested the home goalkeeper.
Bridgwater were always in the game at just a goal down, but their chances of forcing a replay received a setback when Llewellyn saw red for a lunge on 66 minutes.
Town had a penalty appeal waved away but struggled to create any clear cut chances, eventually succumbing to a single-goal defeat which ends their FA Cup journey for another year.
The Robins bow out with heads held high having far from disgraced themselves against opposition from two divisions above, and can now concentrate on trying to climb the Toolstation Western League Premier table.
Bridgwater Town: Jake Viney, David Thorne, Kurt Robinson (Charlie White), Mark Armstrong, Josh White, Shaun Lambert, Syd Camper (Matt Connick), Jack Jenkins, Ryan Burrows (Kyle Paine), Dave Pearse, Jake Llewellyn.
