BRIDGWATER Town remain in search of their first league points of 2017 as they travel to Bishops Cleeve on Saturday.

The Robins conceded a late goal to slip to a 2-1 defeat at home to Didcot Town last Saturday, which represented their 16th reverse in a row.

Their hosts this weekend are in poor form themselves, however, having picked up just three points from an available 24 to leave them in 16th.

Looking ahead to the match, Town boss Dave Pearse said: “If we can build on the first half performance from Saturday then we’ve got a chance of getting something.

“It is a tough place to go, but the spirit in the group remains good despite our recent run.”

Pearse has handed first-team opportunities to several youngsters and reserve players since taking over from Phil Hucker, and the likes of Josh Champion and Jordan Lovibond are set to feature again this weekend.

Goalkeeper Ashton Granter, meanwhile, will continue to deputise between the sticks after saving a penalty in his home debut last weekend.

In other news, the Evo-Stik League have announced that the result of Bridgwater’s match against Larkhall, which was abandoned late on due to violent scenes breaking out at Fairfax Park, will stand.

That means the match goes down as a 4-0 loss against the Robins, as that was the score at the time of the abandonment.
