Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West
Bridgwater Town 1, Bishops Cleeve 3

BRIDGWATER Town suffered their 20th league defeat of the season on Saturday at home to Bishops Cleeve.

Resolute performances away to Evesham United and North Leigh (both resulting in 1-0 losses) raised hopes that the Robins could win on home turf.

But it was the Mitres who came away from Fairfax Park with the points, after a 3-1 victory.

The visitors took the lead in the ninth minute through Jacob Davidge, only for that to be cancelled out by Town’s Harry Horton two minutes later.

Yet Davidge was at it again in the 39th minute, putting his side 2-1 up, and Aaron Drake’s 73rd-minute goal wrapped things up.

Dan Wright and Dave Pope were in charge at the weekend due to the still vacant manager’s seat, and the side remain rooted to the bottom of Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West on 10 points.

This Saturday the Robins are back on the road, away to Salisbury (ko 3pm).

Salisbury sit fifth in the table and have a real fight on their hands to claim a playoff place come the end of the season, so this will be another tough encounter for Town.

The Robins were beaten 3-1 at home by their next opponents last month, with Thomas Wright scoring two penalties and Brandon Munday once for Steve Claridge’s men, with Syd Camper claiming the hosts’ consolation.
