Southern League Division 1 S&W
Bridgwater Town 0, Hereford 4

BRIDGWATER'S young squad battled bravely against table-topping Hereford on Saturday but, in the end, were comfortably beaten, writes Bob Summerhayes.

Two goals from Mike Symons in the opening 15 minutes could well have seen bottom club Bridgwater capitulate.

But, to their credit, they refused to roll over and even hit back.

They missed a golden opportunity mid-way through the half when a sloppy bit of defending by Hereford presented Jamie Chamberlain with a chance.

His snatched effort failed to hit the target, however, and ended up in the side-netting.

Hereford failed to extend their lead before the break as Bridgwater battled all the way.

The killer blow came two minutes after the restart when Tristan Plummer curled his shot into the top corner of the net, giving keeper Liam Kingston no chance.

It was not Chamberlain's day when, after great work, he slipped up when just about to score and the chance was again gone.

To their credit, Bridgwater held the much-vaunted Hereford attack at bay for the next 45 minutes and only conceded in time added on as Jamie Molyneux fired home from close in.

  • Bridgwater's scheduled match at North Leigh on Saturday has been postponed, the home side playing Kingstonian in the FA Trophy. Bridgwater are next in league action on Tuesday, November 29, when Larkhall Athletic are the visitors (ko 7.45pm).
