Slimbridge 3 Bridgwater Town 0

BRIDGWATER Town failed to extend their two-match unbeaten run in the league when they were beaten 3-0 at Slimbridge.

After a win against Marlow last Saturday and a draw against Larkhall midweek, there was a good mood in the changing room prior to the match.

But that positivity never materialised and the defeat sees Town slip back into the bottom two.

The first 10 minutes of the match belonged to Slimbridge, who took control of the game – but it was Bridgwater who were the first to have an opportunity, as Chas White set up Ollie Chamberlain, whose effort brought a good stop from Slimbridge keeper Adam Thomas.

The hosts opened the scoring on 18 minutes when Paul Fahy’s cross set up Adam Mace who placed it past a helpless Viney in the Bridgwater goal.

The Robins almost drew level on 27 minutes when Conor O’Sullivan’s free kick caused a goal mouth scramble, but the ball was eventually cleared.

It took just five second-half minutes for Slimbridge to double their lead, after a lofty cross found the head of Geening.

Another chance soon came for Slimbridge but it hit the up right.

Both sides were reduced to ten men on the hour mark, when a scrap occurred between Mace and Bridgwater’s Josh White - referee Richard Gardner issued a straight red to both players after a angry exchange of words.

Shaun Anthony had a chance to score when Kye Mountford dinked a ball over the top, but his volley went over the bar much to his disgust.

Slimbridge added a third in the dying minutes when play inside the box saw Lawson convert.

The Robins travel to Shortwood United on Saturday, before hosting Chippenham in the second round of the RedInsure Cup on November 10 (7.45pm).
