Watchet Town 0, Bridgwater Town Reserves 3

BRIDGWATER Town Reserves manager Luke Buckingham said his side showed 'exceptional character' to comfortably beat league high-flyers Watchet on Saturday.

Goals from Matt Connick, Alex Male and Chris Young sealed an impressive away win for the Robins - and the manager was pleased to earn a first win in three games.

He said: “The players were excellent today and it was a real team performance with everyone playing their part. “Despite putting in a couple of reasonable performances, we had lost our last two games, and the players showed exceptional character to come to Watchet and win in such a comprehensive fashion.”

Bridgwater were on top from the off with the big, wide flat pitch suiting their attacking free flowing style of play.

They went in front after only six minutes when impressive striker Chris Young fed forward Matt Connick who coolly finished from close range.

Connick had the chance to double his personal tally from the spot when he robbed the Watchet back line surged in to the box, and was unceremoniously bundled over by the home keeper.

However, his weakly struck penalty was comfortably saved by the home custodian.

Watchet's direct style of play was comfortably dealt with by Bridgwater makeshift centre back pairing of Callum Laird and Harry Horton and keeper Josh Hayward who was in commanding form.

It wasn't long before Bridgwater did double their lead after Young linked with 17-year-old Charlie White, whose excellent cross found Connick at the back post and his neat header allowed Alex Male to finish from close range.

Watchet went close to getting a foothold back in the game, but a rasping shot from the edge of the box was excellently saved by keeper Hayward.

The lead was extended and the points sealed with 25 minutes still left on the clock when Young weaved between two defenders before expertly bending the ball into the far corner.
