BRIDGWATER Town manager Richard Fey described Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Yate Town as “disappointing” after his side were made to pay for their defensive lapses at Lodge Road.

Fey cited individual errors as the catalyst for the defeat and was also critical of top scorer and captain for the day, Tom Knighton, who was sent-off late on for a head butt.

Fey said: “We were disappointing really, especially after some really good results recently – three individual errors and three goals conceded, but I’m not going to knock the lad’s efforts.

“Yate are a good side and will be looking to go up this season, but we just couldn’t get going and get the three points we were after.

“I’m not going to moan at the lads, because expectations have changed overnight and people are looking above us rather than below us in the table, which is a credit to the lad’s recent performances.

“Tom has let himself and the club down with his sending off, I don’t know why he did it or what led to it, but we’re going to be without our top scorer for three big games now, which is a real shame.

“I’d made him captain for the day because Andy (Robertson) was tight from midweek, so he’s going to have to work hard to get back in the team when his suspension finishes.”
