Bridgwater Town 1, Fleet Town 1

A FINE individual goal from Kyle Tooze earned Bridgwater Town a point at home to strugglers Fleet Town on Saturday, writes Eddie Robinson.

Tooze slotted home in the 22nd minute following a surging 70 metre run, but Craig Davis’ free-kick on the stroke of half-time levelled things up for the visitors.

The Robins welcomed back striker Joe Bushin for a second spell, as they lined up with four attacking players in a 4-2-4 formation, which made for an open game.

Bridgwater made the early running and Scott Thomas got on the end of their first two corners, whilst Tooze had a shot saved on nine minutes.

Fleet’s Niambo had the visitor’s first chance when unmarked, he headed goal wards, but Rudge was on hand to clear.

Bushin went close with a couple of headers, before Tooze lit up Fairfax Park with a stunning effort.

He picked up the ball deep in his own half, raced down the wing before beating the full-back on the outside to find himself in on goal – before having the composure to flick the ball past the ‘keeper.

Dominating possession, Bridgwater were able to use full-backs in attacking positions and went close to a second when Tooze’s show was saved after slick movement involving Rendall and Knighton.

Fleet equalised courtesy of Davis’ free-kick which found the bottom corner and Fleet found themselves unexpectedly level at the break.

The visitors dominated the opening exchanges of the second-half, but from here, it was the hosts who took charge of the last 30 minutes as they went looking for the winner.

A quickly taken free-kick by Knighton found Rendall, whose strong shot was tipped over the bar – whilst Bushin was just wide with another header, following a good run and cross by Allan.

O’Hare struck the post with a header late on, but Richard Fey’s side were unable to find a winning goal.
