BRIDGWATER Town manager Richard Fey is urging further support from fans in their last few friendlies before the league kicks off in August.

Town were unlucky in their 5-4 loss to NPower League One side Bristol City on Saturday, but with a 5-1 thumping over Street and a goalless draw against Bitton, Coach Fey appears optimistic in his side’s spirit and determination.

He said: “It was a great game for the supporters and we had a good crowd of about 300.

“They (Bristol) brought a mixture of under-21s and under-18s with them, and also had a Spanish goalkeeper on trial from Real Madrid’s B team – he had an interpreter and everything.

“Pre-season is all about fitness and getting back out there so we don’t have injury problems, but in one game we’ve managed to lose three players – Tyne Govier, Dean Griffiths and Craig Allan – all through injuries.

“Games like this have given us a chance to build ourselves up and get ready for our first league game on August 9.

“We’ve been doing well but we need to find stability and not be in a position where we’re switching players around.”

Town have seen several players exit this summer, but the gaffer remains confident in the squad he still has.

He said: “We’ve lost around nine players and it has felt a bit like starting again as coach of a new side.

“The players WHO are still here have been doing extremely well though.

“Ollie (Chamberlain) and Callum (Laird) have both come in recently and have done really well.

“We had seven local lads in the team on Saturday, which is great for us and it’s what the supporters like to see.

“I’ve been busy all summer finding new sponsors for the club and, of course, new players for our squad.

“We can’t wait for the new season – it’s always nicer getting up for a game of football on a Saturday rather than going shopping with the wife.

The Robins are urging fans to support the team tonight (Tuesday) when they play at The Athletic Ground against Wells City with a 7pm kick-off, and at their last two away friendlies against Barnstaple Town on July 26 and Afon Lido on August 2.
