Bridgwater Town 1, Yate Town 1

TOM Knighton’s second-half equaliser earned Bridgwater Town a hard-fought draw at home to Yate Town on Saturday, writes Eddie Robinson.

Mike Bryant fired Yate in front after just 15 minutes, but Knighton popped up on the hour to secure a point for the Robins.

Yate took charge of the early exchanges and went ahead when captain Mike Bryant pounced on a loose ball to smash home after Lewis Haldane’s free kick had been saved by Alexander.

A moment of miscommunication at the back nearly cost Town a second, but Harmer’s shot drifted over the crossbar with Alexander stranded.

Town struggled to get into the game and Knighton was beginning to look isolated up front as the side’s headed into half-time.

The second half was a completely different story as Town took the game to the visitors.

Rendell went close to pulling Bridgwater level on 50 minutes, but his snap shot went inches wide of the far post.

Jake Mawford was introduced for the final 15 minutes and made an immediate impact for Bridgwater.

His well-timed tackle put Knighton into space, and the latter’s powerful drive from 20 yards flew past Horsell into the top corner for his eighth goal of the season since joining the club.

Knighton almost won the game five minutes from time, but Mitch Harrison got back on the Yate goal line to clear the danger.

The Robins travel to Cinderford tonight (Tuesday) for a 7.45pm kick-off in a game which starts a run of five away trips.
