BRIDGWATER Town are preparing for two games in three days, starting with their penultimate league game of the season at Hengrove Athletic tomorrow.

Shepton Mallet follow in a Les Phillips Cup semi-final at Fairfax Park on Monday night, and Robins player-manager Dave Pearse admitted that clash would have an impact on Saturday's team selection.

Looking ahead, he said: “Hengrove will be tough - they are ninth, only seven points behind us with a game in hand.

“We have to get a result or suddenly we could be looking at finishing eighth or ninth.

“We’ll have to use our squad carefully with Monday in mind - we have a couple of players one yellow card away from a two-game ban so we’ll have to look after them or, if they do play, they will have to be careful.

“There are also a few selection dilemmas. Kurt Robinson has been outstanding at left-back all season but for the last couple of games Syd Camper has played back there and been unbelievable, so that’s a headache.

“Aaron Harper-Penman will also be back in contention at the back.

“We’ve seen Shepton Mallet play a few times this season so we have to decide whether to stick or twist in terms of doing what we do or adapting to their style.”

Pearse was delighted to get back to winning ways against Cadbury Heath last weekend after a poor run since Easter.

“We made hard work of it," he said.

“Their first goal was a great goal but we kept going, even at 2-1 down, and it was an exciting way for our last home league match to finish.

“I think back at the start of the season we would have lost that game, so I’m pleased with the character the lads showed.

“It was a hard week last week with the back-to-back games, but our efforts were rewarded with that late winner.”

Saturday's game gets underway at 3pm while Monday night’s semi-final, against the side one place above Town in the league table, kicks off at 7.30pm.
