Les Phillip Cup
Quarter-final
Bridgwater Town 4, Bitton 0

BRIDGWATER Town continued their fine form with an emphatic win over Bitton on Saturday, which secured their place in the last four of the Les Phillips Cup.

Goals from Ryan Burrows, Jack Taylor (2) and Jack Jenkins gave the Robins their ninth win from their last 10 games, as ensured there would be no repeat of Bitton's win at Fairfax Park in January.

The game started scrappily, and it was a fiery affair throughout, before Josh Egan shot just over for the visitors.

The deadlock was broken on 23 minutes, as Burrows cut in from the left and ran at the defence, with the ball breaking back to him to strike just inside the left-hand post.

Another scrappy, tempestuous period broke out after Bitton were denied a penalty for handball, with their manager Dan Langdon being sent from his dugout.

Six minutes before half time, the Robins scored a fine second goal, as a quick throw-in found Jake Llewellyn down the left, and his cross was headed in by Taylor.

Two goals to the good, the hosts dominated the second half with some exciting football.

Dave Pearse found Taylor with a clever flick, and the in-form frontman rounded the goalkeeper to find the net again on 54 minutes.

Bridgwater goalkeeper Connor Sidley-Adams was forced into a couple of saves, but there were no real alarm bells for the hosts.

Taylor was denied a hat-trick by some stellar saves from Ben John in the Bitton goal, but the home side did add a fourth to their tally in the 85th minute, as Jenkins' 30-yard strike soared into the top left-hand corner.

That sealed an outstanding result and performance from Bridgwater, who are back in action tomorrow (Monday, ko 7.45pm), away to Bridport in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division.
