BRIDGWATER Town co-manager Dave Pearse has described Saturday's derby against Wellington in the Les Phillips Cup as "massive", with his in-form side looking to continue their progress in the competition and gain revenge against their local rivals.

The Robins have won their last four league games, the most recent of which was a 5-0 dismantling of lowly Wells City at Fairfax Park last weekend, and now face a side they lost 2-0 against in horrendous conditions on Boxing Day.

Lining up in the visiting side will be Sam Towler, who Bridgwater tried to sign recently only for the midfielder to stay with Wellington, while Town's star striker Jack Taylor will be up against his former club.

Looking ahead to the match, Pearse said: “Saturday’s game is massive. We want to go far in the competition and it’s a bit of a revenge mission as Wellington beat us on Boxing Day.

"We should have won that day - we dominated and had plenty of chances. Having said that, they've got good players - Towler being one of them - so we can't take anything for granted."

Pearse has impressed of late in a role just off the striker - usually the prolific Taylor, who now has 12 goals in 13 Town appearances this season.

"I like to to drop off the frontman - I've always played with a goalscorer and been involved in the link-up play," Pearse said.

"It's great to have the energetic midfielders we have to get past me and make the runs to set up opportunities, and I'm enjoying it."

One of those energetic midfielders is Mike Duffy, who opened the scoring against Wells but this weekend plays his last game for the best part of a month.

“He is available this weekend but will then miss four or five games as he’s in Australia," Pearse said.

“He’s been excellent of late, so he’ll be a real miss.”

Elsewhere this weekend, Bridgwater Town Reserves - who last weekend failed to raise a side after the departure of manager Dan Wright - are at Stockwood Wanderers in the Somerset County League Premier Division.

Middlezoy Rovers make the short trip to Staplegrove in the same league, while on Sunday afternoon Zoy's Ladies host Torquay United.
