Division 1 South & West
Bridgwater Town 1, Didcot Town 2

THERE was an improved performance from Bridgwater Town after two heavy defeats the week before, but they lost out again despite taking the lead.

Syd Camper gave the hosts the lead before half time, but strikes from James Organ and Louis Joyce after the break consigned the already relegated Robins to a 15th straight defeat.

Still, there were encouraging signs in interim manager Dave Pearse's first home game in charge, particularly in a bright first half.

They could well have gone behind early on, though, as Ashton Granter - the goalkeeper making his home debut - brought down George Reid in the box.

Yet the keeper made a good save to his left from George Jeacock's penalty, and the scores remained level.

The hosts went on the attack, and Camper saw a shot deflected wide before Matt Connick drew a save from Didcot keeper Leigh Bedwell.

The breakthrough came on 38 minutes, as Camper latched onto an underhit backpass, rounded Bedwell and finished coolly.

Yet the visitors looked a completely different team after the interval, and Sam Barder forced Granter into action - and from the resulting corner the ball was headed against the post.

The Robins had not heeded that warning, and from another corner Organ headed home the equaliser in the 57th minute.

The pressure was incessant now, and it was all Bridgwater could do to hang on, though George Kellow sent a shot just wide for the hosts.

In the end it was a route one goal which won the game - Bedwell's clearance flicked on for Joyce to volley in from 12 yards, with five minutes left.

There was one last chance for Bridgwater, and it fell to the impressive Connick - but his 20-yard drive was pushed over the bar by Bedwell.

The Robins travel to Bishops Cleeve next Saturday (April 8, ko 3pm), before hosting Taunton Town the following weekend (April 15, ko 3pm).
