BRIDGWATER Town FC have launched an internal investigation after their match with Larkhall Athletic last Tuesday was abandoned due to a ‘mass brawl’ breaking out at Fairfax Park.

Visiting player Geraint Bater was left with facial injuries after the incident, later tweeting a picture and claiming he received a “broken eye socket in 2 places, broken cheekbone and broken sinus wall.”

Initially, it was claimed that the match was brought to an early end because of the fog, but it later emerged that it was in fact called to a halt to ensure the players’ safety after the violent scenes.

Town - who were losing 4-0 at the time of the abandonment - are yet to make a formal comment on the matter, with new manager Phil Hucker telling the Mercury that the club will make a statement “when necessary.”

Jason Mills, the league secretary of Evo-Stik Division 1 South & West, has confirmed that the matter is now in the hands of the Football Association.

The incident was the latest instalment in a difficult season so far for the Robins, who sit bottom of the league with just 10 points from 27 matches.
