BRIDGWATER Town continue to battle bravely in the league despite their vacant manager's seat, and follow the weekend's narrow loss at Evesham United with a trip to North Leigh tonight (ko 7.45pm).

After the 5-0 home humbling by Paulton Rovers the day after Craig Laird's departure for Dorchester, the Robins were far more resolute away to Evesham, who are right in the mix for promotion.

The hosts had won 5-0 at Fairfax Park in the reverse fixture, and they dominated Saturday's game from the outset.

Yet Town's defence held out until the 32nd minute, when possession was carelessly surrendered to Adam Mann, who lobbed keeper Liam Kingston from 35 yards to give Evesham the lead.

Yet, rather than crumble, the Robins - managed by club committee members Dave Pope and Chris Young, stayed strong.

A resolute rearguard effort - with some excellent saved by Kingston - kept the score to 1-0 at half time.

Following the break Evesham continued to pile on the pressure, but were frustrated by their determined visitors - despite both the Robins' centre-backs, Jake Horsey and Tom Richens, being forced off by injury.

Alex Male and Matt Connick replaced them, and were superb in their makeshift roles as no further goals were scored in the match.

Despite the fine performance, Town dropped back down to the bottom of Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 S&W, as Wantage Town picked up a point against Yate Town.

Tonight the Robins are in action in Oxfordshire, taking on 11th-placed North Leigh.

Their opponents won 1-0 at Fairfax Park on the opening day of the season, and also knocked Town out of the FA Trophy, winning the replay 4-1 after a 2-2 draw in Bridgwater.
