BRIDGWATER Town look to finish a difficult first half of the 2016-17 season on a positive note away to Slimbridge today (ko 3pm).

The Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West fixture is the Robins’ first action in 10 days, when they lost 3-1 at home to Salisbury.

Steve Claridge’s side claimed the points at Fairfax Park courtesy of two penalties from leading scorer Tommy Wright, Brandon Munday’s header wrapping it up.

Syd Camper scored the Robins’ consolation, with his side already 3-0 down.

Defeat to the playoff-chasers saw Bridgwater remain rooted to the bottom of the league, with seven points.

Wantage Town have nine points, with those two cast adrift of Paulton Rovers, Barnstaple Town and AFC Totton, all on 17 points.

Today’s opponents Slimbridge have accumulated 21 points to sit in 16th spot, six places above Bridgwater.

Their last meeting, in September, finished as a stalemate – the sides sharing the points following a 0-0 draw at Fairfax Park.

The Robins are on a nine-match losing run, their last league points coming in October and from their sole win, 1-0 over Tiverton Town.

But Slimbridge themselves are out of form – they lost all five games in December and were hammered 7-0 by Winchester City in their last match – and so Bridgwater boss Craig Laird will hope and improved performance from his men can bring some morale-boosting points.

- FOLLOWING today's game, the Robins' next outing is a home match against fellow strugglers Paulton Rovers next Monday, January 2 (ko 3pm).

This is the side’s first meeting in the league this season (the reverse fixture is in April), although Paulton won 3-1 at Fairfax Park in the League Challenge Cup first round.

Rovers have lost their last four games in the league, a run which has seen them beaten 4-1 away to Taunton Town and 3-0 by visitors Salisbury in their last fixture before Christmas.

- BRIDGWATER have announced that half season tickets are on sale.

These cost £60 for adults or £50 for concessions.

The tickets will be available to buy from the clubhouse bar at the first team’s match at home to Paulton.
