Yate Town 1 Bridgwater Town 0

A 43rd minute strike was enough to condemn Bridgwater Town to a 1-0 defeat at Yate Town on Saturday afternoon, writes Jeff Bennett.

On a cold bleak day, such as Saturday was, you have to admire the spirit of any football player willing to play.

Yate were looking to put another win under their belt, while Bridgwater were looking for a response after their defeat at Totton.

Yate's first chance came in the 14th minute when Jake Viney saved comfortably from a weak shot, before the second shot drifted well wide.

On 16 minutes, Yate's front man squandered the chance to shoot and instead chose to square the ball, only for Josh White to intercept and clear the ball.

The few chances Bridgwater had were scuppered by the offside flag, and Josh Wadham shot optimistically having cut inside, but his shot was high and wide.

At the other end, pressure from a Yate cross forced Jay Adams to head back to where he thought Jake Viney, was only to see the ball go out for a corner much to his frustration.

The deadlock was broken on 43 minutes when once again, Darren Edwards, moving down the right wing, crossed for Mike Bryant to tap the ball home and make it 1-0 just before half time.

Second half began with a burst of heavy rain, but with Bridgwater looking brighter.

Bridgwater were awarded several free kicks, but nothing came of them and it has to be said that Yate defended well against the few chances the visitors had.

However, it should also be noted that Bridgwater's back line defended just as well, and there were very few chances for either side in the second half.

Conor O'Sullivan had probably the best chance for Bridgwater when James Byrne played a free-kick into the corner - and Josh White was given a yellow card in the 77th minute, when after being tackled he returned the favour, only to be deemed late and heavy.

And so the game played out to the final whistle, with Yate securing a 1-0 win.

Bridgwater travel to Shortwood on Tuesday following with a full month of catch up fixtures to play.
