BRIDGWATER Town Reserves manager, Dan Wright says success will continue to be judged on the progress of his players, rather than results.

Wright, who watched his side to slip to a ‘disappointing’ 4-0 defeat at the hands of Bishops Lydeard a fortnight ago, says the reserves are currently ‘rebuilding’ after losing a number of players to the first XI – but the manager is delighted to see these players excelling in the Southern League.

Wright said: “Last Saturday was an extremely disappointing afternoon.

“The performance was littered with errors.

“As a team we conceded some awful goals which we should never allow to happen.

“The afternoon was certainly an afternoon we all want to forget about but must all reflect upon why we were poor and how we improve to prevent this happening again.

“At the moment we are rebuilding the team after being so successful in progressing players up to the first team.

“We have lost some excellent talent in the likes of Tom Hopkins, George Sinnott and Matt Connick who have been unbelievable performers for the reserve side this year.

“It’s therefore difficult to replace those players immediately.

“However despite losing these players we have some exceptional footballers rising through club who can seize these vacancies.

“With so much talent at the club in the Development Centre (14s-16s) U18s and Reserves, we will continue to develop, nurture and follow the progress of those lads up the first team.

“The reserve side will not be judged upon its success in points accumulated in league standings, but by how many people reach the first team, like club captain Josh White, Connick, Hopkins and Sinnott.”

Town Reserves travel to high-flying Shirehampton on Saturday.
