Clevedon United 0 Bridgwater Town Reserves 2

BRIDGWATER Town assistant manager, Dan Wright praised the resilience of his side during Saturday’s ‘bitty’ victory over Clevedon United at Coleridge Vale.

Second-half goals from Chris Young and Josh Champion earned the points for Town in a disjointed game and Wright was pleased to see his side come out on top.

He said: "Today was a real bitty game which lacked momentum with lots of stoppages for fouls and the ball in and out of play.

“This made the performance even more pleasing to go and score twice, not concede again and get another three points.

“The lads took some big tackles today on and off the ball incidents which made it difficult to focus on the football but they stayed resilient, worked the game plan and came out on top."

Town enjoyed plenty of possession and territory in and around the Clevedon penalty area but failed to convert into chances and work the goalkeeper.

The Robins could and should have taken the lead, firstly through Young, who was unmarked at the back post following a superb delivery from Sinnott.

Minutes later Sinnott delivered and picked out the advancing Male who volleyed straight at the goalkeeper who tipped over the bar.

Clevedon were on the back foot right from the restart, struggling to defend crosses from the right and left side of the Bridgwater attack.

It was on the hour mark that Young headed home a Sinnott cross to give the Robins a deserved lead.

The home side continued their efforts going forward, but were denied any real chance on goal with a stubborn Bridgwater defence, who have only conceded three in seven matches.

Substitute Champion put the game to bed and ensured Town left with another three points, when he found himself in the penalty area, pinning and turning the Clevedon defender to rifle the ball into the top left corner.

The Reserves face a tough league fixture next week away at Bishops Lydeard, 3pm kick off.
