Berrow 1 Bridgwater Town Reserves 3

BRIDGWATER Town Reserves assistant manager, Dan Wright said his side had ‘played to their strengths’ in Saturday’s 3-1 win at local rivals Berrow.

Goals from Matt Connick, Chris Young and George Sinnott helped Town come from behind to secure three points, after Jack Taylor had given Berrow the lead – and Wright admitted his side had been slow starters.

He said: “It took a while for us to get going – playing to our strengths and exploiting their weaknesses but it was none the less pleasing to score three goals, create all the chances that we did and still not play our best.

“The day was brightened when we all got to see our manager Luke Buckingham in the changing rooms and watching the entire game.

“To win the game, create those chances and score three goals was very pleasing for me and the team for Luke to see it.”

Berrow managed to break the deadlock first with a freak error in the reserves defence, as Govier misplaced the ball to Berrow’s Taylor who made no mistake in stroking the ball across the line to give Berrow a 1-0 lead after 18 minutes.

The reserves soon made good inroads down their right flank, working the ball into the penalty area to top goal scorer Chris Young who struck the ball into the top right-hand corner to equalise.

It was a different Bridgwater side in the second-half with the Robins dominating possession and they made it 2-1 when a cross from Champion was poorly cleared and George Sinnott volleyed the ball into the back of net.

Town then missed a golden opportunity to make it 3-1 when Govier saw his penalty saved after a handball on the goal line.

But minutes later, Matt Connick was fouled in the penalty area and he picked himself up to send the goalkeeper the wrong way and make it 3-1 to the Robins.
