Southern League Division One South and West

Bridgwater Town 0, Yate Town 2

BRIDGWATER Town will be hoping to end a run of three straight defeats when they travel to Wimborne Town tomorrow night (Tuesday).

The Robins slipped to a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Yate Town on Saturday to stay in the bottom two of Division One South and West, but victory tonight could see Town claw themselves out of the drop zone.

The Robins conceded once in either half against eighth-place Yate at Fairfax Park, but gave an improved performance from the previous week’s 5-0 defeat.

They conceded just five minutes in when a cross from the right wing was converted by Jake Cox, who slotted home a low volley from 15 yards out.

But Town regrouped and began to gain a foothold in the match, with Ross McNab leading the side’s efforts.

Callum Laird’s long range effort drifted over the crossbar and on 28 minutes, Bridgwater were given a huge boost when Tom Warren was given his marching orders for kicking out at Ollie Chamberlain.

Now a man to the good, the Robins rallied and went close to equalising when a Sam Towler headed over from Conor O’Sullivan’s cross.

After the break, Bridgwater continued to press forward and McNab forced Martin Horsell into a smart save at the near post, before heading wide from Kye Mountford’s free-kick.

Their best chance came on 67 minutes when Mountford dragged a shot wide after being put through by Ollie Chamberlain – and they were soon made to pay for spurning chances by a second Yate goal.

Harry Horton lifted a pass to Jake Jackson, whose thundering strike found the top corner of Jake Viney’s goal to double the visitor’s advantage.

McNab twice went close to pulling a goal back for Bridgwater, but Horsell was on hand to deny him once again and the final whistle condemned the hosts to another defeat.
