Bridgwater Town Res 1, Wrington Redhill 2

BRIDGWATER Town Reserves suffered an identical defeat to the one back in late August, going down 2-1 to Wrington Redhill at Fairfax Park.

Wrington broke the deadlock midway through the first half after a misplaced pass from Callum Laird allowed the Wrington forward a free run at goal to calmly finish past the helpless Josh Hayward.

Town were unlucky to have not got back on level terms after a Chris Young free-kick whipped around the Wrington wall, only to hit the bottom of the upright.

Soon after, the veteran forward penetrated the middle of the Wrington defence, striking the ball beautifully to find the top left corner of the Wrington net.

Returning after the half time interval at one a piece, it was Town who started the second half much more brightly, going down the hill and in favour of the blustery wind.

Crosses from the versatile Josh Champion were well placed in the penalty area but were unable to be finished past the Wrington goalkeeper.

Despite Wrington struggling to get out of their own half and create any attacks of their own, Graham Cheeseman, a former Exeter City professional and Bridgwater Town favourite, headed his team into the lead on 60 minutes.

The goal followed from a quick throw-in and a cross from the left which Cheeseman met at the back post.

Town substitute Charlie Bridges had a notable chance on the edge of the penalty area from a corner superbly saved by the Wrington goalkeeper – the eventual man of the match.

Reserves assistant manager, Dan Wright said: “We’ve been playing through the thirds all season.

“This is exactly the way we as a team want to play our football – building possession from our defensive third right into our offensive third.

“We all know as a team by playing this way we can cause our opponents problems but we also know we can be exploited and today is an example of that.”
