BRIDGWATER Town manager Richard Fey described Saturday’s postponement at Bishops Cleeve as ‘frustrating’ after heavy overnight rain prevented any play in Cheltenham.

The Robins were hoping to build on Tuesday night’s memorable 1-0 victory over Weston-super-Mare, a performance described as ‘unbelievable’ by Fey – but the manager says the backlog of fixtures now faced by his players will be a tough ask as they head into the season’s run-in.

Fey said: “We’re frustrated, to say the least – after Tuesday night’s unbelievable 1-0 win at Weston-super-Mare in the Somerset Cup, the boys were buzzing in training on Thursday and we really wanted Saturday’s game on.

"Unfortunately, Bishops Cleeve have struggled with their pitch this season and as soon as I woke up and heard it had been raining in Cheltenham, we had no chance.

“I was gutted and so were the players because it puts us further behind in games and we now have three games in hand on a lot of teams in the league – and four games in hand on Sholing, so it’s not ideal as I would rather have the points on the board.

“We now face the task of the boys playing every Tuesday up to March 17 already and that’s a massive ask. Unfortunately, we’re used to it, like last season but it’s no fault of our club.

“We have had one postponement at home and all the games off have been either away or because of cup replays, etc.

“Credit to Winston, Mike Cook and our club because our drainage now is good and even though it can be heavy, we are more confident than last season of playing in January and February.”

l Town host Wimborne tonight (Tuesday, 7.45pm ko) at Fairfax Park, before welcoming Wantage on Saturday (ko 3pm).

The Robins then face the long trip to Bashley next Tuesday.

Kyle Tooze returns from a four-match suspension and Craig Allan returns from holiday, so Fey has a fully-fit squad to select from.
