BRIDGWATER Town manager Richard Fey described Saturday’s 2-2 draw at high-flying Didcot Town as his “proudest” day in football management, after his ten-man Robins side battled to a point in Oxfordshire.

Town were forced to play nearly 75 minutes one-man down after Kyle Tooze was controversially dismissed following a 50/50 challenge – but Fey was keen to focus on his players rather than the sending-off and called on the club’s supporters to pack Fairfax Park on Boxing Day.

He said: “Saturday was my proudest since I’ve been as a manager – no-one gave us any hope against a team unbeaten in 12 in the league and who just took Forest Green Rovers to an FA Trophy replay.

“We were excellent and I’d rather not talk about the ref or the sending-off, but the other 13 lads who were nothing more than excellent for this club.

“We were 2-0 up with ten men and when they pulled it back to 2-2, we still created chances at the end.”

Fey was also keen to talk-up the performance of goalkeeper Ben John, who pulled off two superb second-half saves to keep his side level.

Fey said: “Ben has been signing of the season for us – on and off the pitch he is brilliant and Saturday he showed why I talk him up so much.

“Everything a goalkeeper should do to stand out, he did and one save he made was outstanding and I’m really pleased for him.

“He is one of the main reasons why we’re doing well and have only lost three in 15.

“Boxing Day at home is ladies day so free entry for all ladies – and we play a local derby against Clevedon Town which will be a hard game so we hope we can get a big crowd to shout us to three points and celebrate reaching 30 points, which was the target at beginning of season.”
