FA Cup Second Qualifying Round

Bridgwater Town 0, Basingstoke Town 2

A SPIRITED display from Bridgwater Town wasn’t enough to keep their FA Cup dream alive as they were beaten 2-0 by Conference South outfit Basingstoke Town on Saturday.

First-half goals from Liam Enver-Marum and Simon Dunn ensured there would be no upset at Fairfax Park, but the Robins did have their fair share of chances to get on the score sheet. Kyle Tooze spurned a great opportunity in the sixth minute when his mis-hit shot nestled in the arms of Basingstoke ‘keeper Stuart Moore.

The visitors were far more clinical and took the lead immediately after through Enver-Marum, as his shot from the edge of the penalty area found the bottom corner of Ben John’s goal.

Daine O’Connor volleyed wide from Craig Allan’s pinpoint cross, as the Robins once again failed to take advantage of some sloppy defending.

And once again they were made to pay on 28 minutes as Dunn’s 30-yard effort found the top right-hand corner of the goal to double the advantage.

O’Connor went close again before half-time, forcing Moore into a strong save, but that was to be the best of the Town chances, as a rather quiet second-half saw Basingstoke progress to the next round.

Bridgwater Town host Fleet Town this Saturday (October 4).
