Bridgwater Town 0, Merthyr Town 2

GOALS either side of half-time condemned Bridgwater Town to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of high-flying Merthyr Town.

Ryan Laville slotted home from close range on 39 minutes before Ryan Prosser’s neat finish three minutes after the break sealed all three points for the Welsh side.

The visitors should have taken the lead early on when Jamie Rewbury’s volley struck the post – and minutes later, Kayne McLaggon headed wide from Ryan Newman’s cross.

Mitchell Page came closest to scoring for the Robins, but his header from Alexander’s long clearance was well saved by ‘keeper Lee Idzi.

Page was beginning to cause problems for the Merthyr defence and he spurned a golden opportunity on the half hour when he fired wide from inside the area. Merthyr took the lead six minutes before the interval when Laville reacted quickest to slot home, after Alexander had parries Newman’s free-kick.

Bridgwater came out fighting in the second half and could have drawn themselves level, but Rendall’s volley was straight at Idzi.

From here, the visitors killed the game off with when Prosser latched on to a loose ball to fire under Alexander and double the lead.

As the came crawled to a close, Town almost pulled one back through Jake Mawford – but Idzi was once again on hand to deny the home side.
