Calor Southern League SW 1

Bridgwater Town 1, Cirencester 3

A BATTLING performance from Bridgwater Town wasn’t enough to earn three points as they fell to defeat at the hands of league leaders Cirencester Town on Saturday, writes Will Carpenter.

Kyle Tooze had given the Robins a 1-0 half-time lead, but two controversial second-half penalties from Cirencester’s Lee Smith and an Ellis Dunton header condemned Richard Fey’s side to defeat.

Despite the result, Fey was pleased with his side’s performance and believes they are heading in the right direction.

He said: “The first half was excellent and we went in one up, but we lost Alex Faux with a hamstring injury and had to shuffle the pack which disturbed us.

“Considering they haven’t played for 14 days and we were playing our second game in three days, we did really well and I was pleased with how we are progressing.”

Tooze’s low drive into the far corner put the Robins ahead on the half-hour mark but the visitors were awarded a penalty early in the second half – and Smith converted to level the scores.

Ellis Dunton’s pinpoint header then sent Cirencester into the lead and the points were made safe five minutes from time when Smith scored his second penalty of the afternoon.

Wimborne Town 1, Bridgwater Town 2

BRIDGWATER came from behind to beat Wimborne Town on Boxing Day, writes Eddie Robinson.

John Blake put Wimborne in front on 24 minutes with a clever chip from the edge of the box, but second half goals from Toby Osman and Joe Bushin ensured the Robins kicked off the festive fixtures with a win.

Osman volleyed home from 20 yards after latching on to a through ball – and Bushin scored six minutes later to seal victory for the visiting side.
