PAUL McLanaghan produced an excellent couple of days golf at Brean Golf Club last weekend. Firstly he handed in a stunning round to win the Bogey Trophy on Saturday and then followed it up just missing out on the Tom Childs Flag event 24hrs later.
On Saturday the Bogey format meant each player plays Matchplay against the course and McLanaghan conjured up no less than 12 nett birdies in his +11 score. His handicap was swiftly reduced by 3 shots as it gave him a 4 hole win over Graham Foy.
Sunday saw the Tom Childs Memorial Trophy with McLanaghan coming within inches of doing the double only to be undone by playing partner Martyn Cahill who won in the shootout. In the Ladies event Debbie Windmill was the winner.
The outcome of the Monthly Medal saw Lee Trumper turn out to be the Division One winner and the Division Two Medal went to the in-form Eamonn Wynne.
Wally Pape's successful year continues as he picked up the Stanley Trophy for the leading score in Division Three. The Ladies Medal was won by Shelia Rouse with a nett 74 ahead of Irene Trumper.
The Seniors had to battle against a strong breeze in the Eclectic Medal round played last week. Whilst most of the competitors struggled Mike Allen prospered as he handed in a nett level par score of 70 and secured a 5 shot win over Roger Philips. Barrie Tucker was another stroke behind Phillips in third. In the Ward Trophy the Seniors are restricted to just 2 clubs and a putter to complete the course. John Sherwood made like of the 'handicap' to post a very impressive 37 points to take victory. Pete Douglas edged out Bill Griffin on countback after they both had 35 points for second position.
Brean Golf Club would like to pass on their condolences to the House and Bowden families after the death of two club members.
