MALTSHOVEL and Red Tile are the early pace- setters in Division 1 of the Uxella Bridgwater & District Sunday League and both kept up the pressure on each with wins this weekend.

Goals from Chris Singleton, Piers Govier and Dean Organ saw Maltshovel beat Highburn 3-1 while Red Tile won 5-3 at Blake Old Boys thanks to braces from Jack Taylor and Carl Tucker and one from Sammy Godfrey. Craig Watts, James Yates and Liam Price got Blake’s goals.

Pawlett Rebels beat New Foresters 7-2 with Darryl Taylor and Ryan Williams bagging a hat-trick apiece along with Marcus Slade’s goal. Josh Smith and Lewis Hodge netted for New Foresters.

Abbey Moor and Grasshoppers shared the spoils with Les Pope scoring from the spot for the visitors and Tiger Old Boys’ match at home to Middlezoy Amicus was postponed.

In Division 2, Flag Old Boys and Ramblers used Puriton’s free game week as a chance to close the gap at the top.

Flag claimed a 2-1 win at Cobblestones with Jamie Merrick scoring for the home side but Ramblers’ win was much more comfortable as hat- tricks from Joe Cresswell and Ed Habberfield, along with a Karl Jasinski brace and one for Phil Court, Brad Butler and Ben Carp, made it 11-1.

Cornhill hit ten past Rhode Lane Wanderers thanks to star man Aaron Walford who hit five, Gareth Monaghan scored two with Sam Puddy and Mark Passmore completed the scoring. Julian Fairfax and Jamie Sellick netted for the visitors.

Willow Green’s Milan Kubinec scored two with Dave Norrell, Marc Birt and Pawel Duda to help them beat ROF 5-1 while North Petherton and Huntspill BPH shared the spoils with a 2-2 draw.

Seb Griffiths and George Turner scored for Pethy while George Weston and Simon Massingham netted for the visitors.

Tiger Old Boys claimed a 4-3 win in a seven goal thriller at Knowle. Kai Martin, Pete John and Dale Curtis’s goals for Knowle were cancelled out by Ian Bellinger, Matt Washer and Nick Keirle before Jamie Chillingworth scored late-on to snatch the points.
