Somerset Senior Cup

Bridgwater Town Res 1, Middlezoy Rovers 3

THE eagerly awaited derby which was re-arranged for Saturday after heavy rain last Tuesday saw Middlezoy claim the bragging rights with a 3-1 win.

The visitors started the game brightly and were rewarded for their efforts on 22 minutes through Dan Luce who skipped past two tacklers and curled his shot in off the post.

That lead was doubled two minutes later as Paul Atyeo netted from close range.

Lee Villis halved the deficit for Bridgwater with a fast flowing counter attack but Middlezoy restored their two-goal advantage four minutes later when man of the match Luce produced a brave header to seal the win.

Middlezoy boss Johnny Warren said: "I believe in this set of players and was confident all week that we would get a result.

“We had a game plan which worked and the players should enjoy the next few days and be proud of what we have achieved so far this season."

On Saturday, Bridgwater Town Reserves travel to Easton in Gordano for a 3pm kick-off while Middlezoy travel to Cutters Friday Reserves in the Second Division Cup at 2.30pm.
