ENMORE Park was very pleased to host the EWGA Southwest Foursomes Championship on Monday. Conditions were unpleasant with drizzle, steady rain and hill mist, but 128 ladies went out to play.

The scores reflected the conditions until S Smart and B Popel from Gloucestershire, came in with a gross 69 which is four shots below par. This is a remarkable achievement as the next best gross score was 81.

Both ladies play off scratch and are very worthy winners.

Enmore Park Seniors continued their programme of October home fixtures, hosting the seniors from Long Ashton.

The story of the match was not one of golf prowess but, sadly, once again of weather disruption. The games started in light drizzle which gradually became persistent heavy rain which slowly but surely began to affect the greens and then the fairways. Three groups curtailed their games after nine holes.

Of those that went the full course Ray Hancock and Paul Waplington produced a fine 5&4 victory, as did Phil Woods with Chris Topps by 3&2. The two captains conferred and agreed that 6-2 in favour of the home team was a fair reflection on the efforts of the day.
