North Petherton 49, Oldfield Old Boys 7

TOP of the table North Petherton continued their unbeaten run with another dominant performance against a spirited Oldfield Old Boys side, writes Chris Wilson.

But Pethy didn’t have it their own way at the start as Oldfield took an early seven point lead.

Harry Roberts clawed six points back with two penalties to make the scores 6-7 after 22 minutes.

Pethy's first try came following some more strong running and great interplay between backs and forwards with Gavin Hancock crossing the line out wide on 28 minutes. Harry Roberts made the conversion to bring the score to 13-7.

Jervis Manupenu jinked his way through the Oldfield defence to score on 33 minutes, with Harry Roberts adding the extras again.

Manupenu collected his second try in stoppage time with another jinking run, making the score at half time 25-7.

The second half saw Arron Gibbs picking the ball up at the base of the scrum and making a break down the blind side. Eventually the ball got to Gavin Hancock where he ran past the covering tacklers to score his second try of the match on 52 minutes, but the conversion went wide.

Petherton’s James Cox crossed the line in the corner on 64 minutes to stretch their lead to 35-7 and then Tito Elisara got himself onto the score sheet after 69 minutes after barging his way through the Oldfield defence and carrying several of their players with him over the line.

The final score of the game came in the 73rd minute following more pressure and great handling. Damian Griffin crossed in the corner and Harry Roberts was successful with his conversion attempt to make the final score 49-7.

Spokesman Simon Freeman said: “At this early stage we are holding our own but we just have to keep focused because we know how competitive this league is.

“We are learning as we go but everyone is working immensely hard.”

Next week, the team travel to Thornbury for a 3pm kick-off.
