FA Trophy Preliminary Round
Abingdon Utd 2, Bridgwater Town 4
BRIDGWATER came from two goals down to win at Abingdon in the FA Trophy on Saturday.
The team made the better start with Jon Vance sending Craig Veal away to force the first corner from which the winger fired wide.
But Abingdon opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Phil Veal brought down the home side’s attacker on ten minutes and Romeo made no mistake.
Bridgwater, who are now sponsored by Johnson Metals, felt aggrieved when a similar tackle sent Craig Veal flying at the other end of the pitch moments later but didn’t result in a penalty.
The home side doubled their lead on 25 minutes after Vance lost the ball and they moved swiftly for Tucket to finish well in the corner.
The Robins responded and, on 39 minutes, Kye Thomas and Steve Fitzpatrick combined well for Thomas to unleash a 25-yard curling effort into the top corner.
Scores were levelled three minutes later as Thomas sent a long ball forward and after a kind bounce following a deflection, Dace Pearse scrambled the ball home.
Bridgwater dominated the second half and took the lead on 68 minutes when Craig Veal again ran at the defence, lost the ball, but was given back possession and forced home from 12 yards.
Five minutes later it was all over as Legg won the ball in midfield and clipped it over the top for Vance, who had timed his run superbly, to coolly slot the ball past a sprawling Abingdon keeper.
