Somerset Rebels 63, Sheffield Tigers 28

THE Rebels showed no let up in their quest for the Premier League title when they mauled the Sheffield Tigers at the Oak Tree Arena on Friday.

The Tigers have had a poor season by their standards, but arrived in Somerset on the back of a superb win against one of the Rebels main title race rival, Newcastle, so no one connected with the Rebels was taking the Tigers lightly.

Alex Davies was on the gas right from the start though and powered the Rebels into a 5-1 lead after heat one.

Heat two was toed 3-3 but James Wright and Jesper Monberg ensured the lead was extended with a 5-1 win in heat three.

It then became a Rebels assault as maximum wins in heats five and six put the home side 26-10 in front thanks to further wins for Wright and Davies.

Sheffield won heat eight 4-3 with a tactical ride but the Rebels responded with 5-1 wins in heats nine and ten with Monberg and Jason Doyle doing the damage.

And the match was a certainty when Monberg and Doyle ran in three more first place finishes between them to wrap up a commanding 63-28 win.

The Rebels will close out their regular league season on Friday at the Oak Tree Arena against the Workington Comets.
