THE Taunton and District Saturday Football League kicked off at the weekend with a number of our sides tasting their opening victory.

In Division One, Newly promoted Intermediate Cup Champions SRL Allsaints beat Highbridge Town 2-1 with goals from Dave Baker and Mark Pope with Highbridge getting one back late through Craig Holley. Predators also fared well in their 5-3 clash with Sampford Blues as Carl Jones bagged two, Pete Hobbs one and a penalty from both Jack Taylor and Jamie Chillingworth.

Division Two side Wembdon Saints shared the points with a 3-3 draw against Bishops Lydeard Colts thanks to a Scott Harman brace and one from Ibrahim Mohanad.

Nether Stowey lost their opener with Appletree 3-1 despite Josh Harvey getting on the scoresheet.

Middlezoy's derby clash with Westonzoyland was a close contest and the deadlock was eventually broken in the 70th minute when Jed Williams lobbed the Westonzoyland keeper to give Rovers a 1-0 win. In Division Three, Highbridge Town made a stuttering start as they lost 6-0 to Stogursey and Wembdon drew 2-2 with Blagdon Hill after Si Lukins and Joe Cresswell scored.

There was only one game in Division Four as The Gallery and Alcombe Rovers Reserves ended honours even, Jamie Evans and Declan Jones scoring for their respective teams. In Division Five, new boys Woolavington got off to a great start in the League with a 3-0 win over Nether Stowey Reserves but with some very familiar scorers in Simon Dodden, Simon Coombes and Jake Chidgey.
