Somerset League Division 4
Wembdon 2nds 161-4 beat Cheddar 160 by 6 wkts

WEMBDON won the toss and elected to bowl first but Cheddar got off to a good start, reaching 50-0 within the opening eight overs.

A double bowling change, bringing the spin twins Pigden (2-42) and Lott (1-28) together, helped slow the pace down and take some important wickets.

The introduction of Phillips continued this trend and, after nine overs, he had routed Cheddar to take 5-32.

With two wickets remaining and the Cheddar score at a competitive score of 160, skipper Jenkins saw it the perfect opportunity to bring back Watts who he knew would be looking to get back in the hut for his tea – Watts obliged with both wickets in four balls.

Wembdon’s openers Lott and J. Lowe got the game off to a great start with Lott hitting the ball to all parts of the field and Lowe offering the perfect support. They put on 68 for the first wicket before Lott fell for swashbuckling 47.

Lowe took this opportunity to take control of the innings with some fine drives down the ground. After losing Phillips (9), Jenkins joined Lowe before he went for a well played and mature innings of 52.

Jenkins went for 23 with 15 runs needed for the victory and K. Cosens and K. Futcher saw them home with 11 overs remaining.
