ENMORE Park Golf Club have progressed to the next round of the Stoke Salver after a comprehensive 7½-4½ win over Sherborne.

The morning foursomes were won 3-1, with Craig Cook and Justin Lane playing very steadily to win their tie 2-1. Alex Clapp and Paul Coleman won 4-3, while Tom Pople and Matt Sparrow visited all the wrong places on the course and lost 4-3. Left-handed pair Ryan Brewer and Luke Hawkins managed to grind out a victory one-up.

The singles turned into a nail-biting afternoon.

First out was Craig Cook who played well but lost on the 18th, while Alex Clapp won 4/3 following a string of birdies.

Justin Lane was third out and won 3-2, with Paul Coleman powering himself to a 5-3 win over youngster James Sowerby.

Match five was an epic battle with Matt Sparrow losing on the 18th one down, before match six produced the recovery of the day when Tom Pople, five down with five to play, managed to halve his match.

Match seven saw Ryan Brewer play the 18th down the first fairway, while a stunning third shot to fell within two feet of the hole for a birdie and a win two-up.

And Luke Hawkins won match eight 3-2 at the 16th.

The Men’s King Cup Flag competition was won by Martin Nelson, whose flag finished in the second hole greenside bunker.

Ryan Brewer took second place by finishing on the first green.
