WEMBDON first team skipper Dan Bingham chats to the Mercury’s Daniel Milligan about his side’s start to the season.

He said: “We have enjoyed a good first half but, at a quick glance, you could argue much hard work and some luck is required if we are to finish strong in the tail-end of the campaign.

“To date, our 240 scored against Bishops Lydeard remains our highest total on bowler-friendly wickets.

“We’ve won four and lost four which shows we have been inconsistent in the first half.

“Our bowlers have done well and restricted sides but have bowled too many extras which is unlike us.

“On our day, we are confident we can defeat any of the sides in the division but it is going to require some luck and good performances to catch Street now.”

The 2nd XI sit in third place in Division 4 of the Shrubbery League after a good start to the campaign and some notable performances from young cricketers and the flurry of runs from G. Lowe. A tough game this Saturday will see second place North Perrott travel to Wembdon.

Wembdon Wyverns (3rd XI) also sit in third and travel to Chilton Polden on Saturday who are in second place, a match which will go a long way to deciding Wembdon's fate. Some wise old heads have been steering the team lead by Ali Cook but Vickery, Hubbard and Fagan have made significant contributions and highlighting the success of the current youth set up at the club.

Wembdon Academy (4th XI) sit handsomely at the top of their division being captained by R. Paull. The experienced heads of R. Weber and P. Cook have been helping to bring through the youth through. This season, the team played four Under-16s, five Under-15s and two Under-13s.
