WEMBDON took an army of friends and family to Paulton in Hampshire for the national rounds of the Village Cup.

Wembdon lost the toss and were inserted to bat. Inconsistent bounce put pay to the openers as R Gower got a shooter and T Lott got one that bounced sharply.

C Jenkins steadied the innings and found a brief partner in S Puddy who began in good touch but played one shot too many following two successive boundaries. Jenkins was joined by Joshi both played with the required mentality in this 40 over encounter. Jenkins (23) was adjudged LBW and Joshi batted through initially finding a partner in D Bingham he too was out LBW and finally P Goss at 11 scoring 17 not out, Joshi finishing 31 not out and Wembdon reaching a struggling 114 off 40 overs.

Bingham and W Pope opened the bowling after tea, Bingham starting with a maiden set the tempo followed up with a wicket for W Pope and one for Bingham as Paulton stuttered to 15-2.

But at drinks after 20 overs Paulton were 73-2 and in control. Wembdon only managed to claim one more wicket courtesy of P Goss as Paulton ran out winners and are through to the last 16.
