BRIDGWATER skipper Mike Coles remained upbeat, despite their defeat to Corsham in a rain-affected match on Saturday.

The team’s lead has been cut to just eight points with defending champions Bath breathing down their necks.

But Coles said he is confident his team can produce the goods in the second half of the season.

He added: “It is good we are disappointed only to be leading by eight points and not more.

“I would have taken where we are now at the start of the season so we are in a good position but perhaps just need to go back to basics.

“We spoke after the game and said that the batsmen need to take more responsibility and if they get starts they need to go on.

“I was very impressed with Mitch Windsor’s bowling and the character he showed to come on and take the key wickets.”

Coles put Saturday’s defeat behind him ahead of their National Knockout last 16 match against South Wilts.

He said: “We are all really looking forward to the match.

“It will be tough as they have four or five Minor Counties players but, hopefully, we can come away with a win.”
