Enmore Park Seniors embarked on yet another trio of consecutive away fixtures at Yeovil, Weston-super-Mare and Honiton and these fixtures marked a welcome return to personal form for captain Tony Pomeroy who registered a win in each fixture.

The Yeovil match, a first between the clubs, saw a 5-1 reverse with only the captain, along with Seniors secretary Ray Hancock, recording a win. The game at Weston was played in torrential rain and strong winds with the captains agreeing that only 10 holes would be played.

The match ended in a very friendly “half”, with each team recording four points.

Enmore’s successful pairings were Paul Waplington and Roger Anniss (4&3); Iain Stewart and Jim Smith (3&2); captain Tony Pomeroy and John Newell (3&2). Roger Pond with Peter Hamshere, and Phil Wood with David Tudor each gained a “half point”.

The final trip to Honiton was thankfully played in dry, calm conditions with Enmore again coming second best, going down to a 4-2 defeat. Enmore’s winning pairings were Tony Pomeroy with Gerry Oates (2&1) and Vice- Captain Keith Norcutt and Roger Anniss (4&2).

The Seniors returned to home soil hosting the Bristol and Clifton Seniors. This fixture may prove to be a turning point of the season as the team produced an impressive performance against their esteemed rivals winning by a margin of 5-2.

Vice-captain Keith Norcutt and his partner Iain Stewart recorded an exceptional victory 9&7, closely followed by John Newell and Chris Topps winning by 6&5.

Other fine results were John Patterson and Derek Kelly, 5&3 victors, and captain Tony Pomeroy maintaining his good form with Graham Marson with a 4&2 advantage. The other point was gained by two half matches, Paul Waplington with Keith Preston and Jim Smith with Max Jameson.

In the mixed events, Jan Hambly and Steve Howell won the Lamb Cup Greensomes with Hilary Cockcroft/Paul Waplington and Val Newell/Viv Dennis in second and third places.
